Lacquer pendant, with MOP inlay. MOP is Mother of Pearl. These pendants are made of lacquer ware. First they take wood and then the sap of the lacquer tree is coated on the bangle. Layer by layer, with time for drying in between. Then the Mother of pearl, abalone, paint, for color, is added with more layers of sap on top to made for a strong seal. The villages in Vietnam where goods like this are made have been making items with these techniques for 250 years. Up to 2" across. Made in Vietnam. |
