Hempies

Hempies are rope weaving animals made from Hemp in Thailand. The secret to the making is that you tie the rope tightly so then you can adjust the hempie to any position you want, making it stand, sit, twist or crawl. Our friend who makes these comes from a family of rope weavers. This inherited craft tradition has been passed down to him for at least 5 generations and comes only from his village and family. His Grandmother said, “While weaving the rope, my mind has to be fixed on it completely otherwise I will tie it wrongly. This rope weaving art can only be passed down to my descendants. I can’t teach it to others…We wish to conserve this art for our children. “
